CS on Humax 5400 using Htt-Gbox - 24-December-2006, 01:50

I have several questions which I hope all of the smart people out there can help me with. First does anyone know any test servers which can be used to try and see if the Humax or my friends server is set up properly for CS? I keep getting the message ->Here? to *******.dyndns.org repeatedly when I try and connect to my friends server and I think it may be a networking problem but need to check.

Second question is this. I am running a wireless network with my main PC hardwired to the router and the other two including my Humax PC using wireless USB network adapters. I am running dyndns and its update client but I also have a place in my router for entering my information for Dyndns so my question is should I enable this in the router and also have the update client operating or should it just be one or the other?

How should the wireless computer IP addresses be set up in the router - as fixed DHCP clients or as automatically assigned.

Final question for now - I have forwarded the port I want to use to receive information from my friends server, in the virtual server section on my router. Does this port need to be opened in the xp firewall as well? Many thanks to anyone who can help

first question:

the short answer is no , the long answer is maybe you will find free servers but since they often change details or go offline testing with these is very painful , by reading your questions i suggest the problem is one of setup , even if you find the correct details you will never connect using existing methods , the reason why is this , on gbox having the server details in NOT
enough , unlike newcamd the person that runs the server must ADD you or
you will NEVER get in.... i hope i made it clear enough..

Second question :

the router is the only item directly visible from the internet , that means
ALWAYS add dyndns to the ROUTER , not the pc , else you will lose the lease
on the ip quicker as the pc will reboot more often than the router...
both work , the router just works best...

third question :

fixed DHCP clients or the local ip assigned to your pc will change whenever you plug / unplug your pc from network and that will messup many programs / tools

last question :

winxp firewall blocks all INCOMING connections , the answer is yes , if you dont
it will partially work but only one port will connect when gbox needs 2...

have fun......
