Soon to go Wireless - 19-October-2009, 16:42

To all my peers etc of my Sky/ESPN uk HD.

My DM800 server will soon be going wireless. Just ordered one of the
d-link wireless usb adapters.

I will let you all know when i will try this, later this week hopefully.

If it doesn't work well, i will just re-connect the hard wire (ethernet).

cheers

I have had this setup. It works good as client. But for server purpouses i dont know how it will handle. I dont think u will be satisfied. U should have for this two radio wlan router with wirelless qos cause in big traffic it tends to jam wireless network and slow massivly.
U will se how it handles but i think u will go back to good old wireee :)

Many Thanks for the advice.

I have "other" boxes at my house connected to the server box, so i could
use this wireless adapter on one of those as they are just clients.

cheers

Try how it works, depends on wireless signal strenght noise level, u have to test it becuse signal depends on many things, configuration if rooms, structure of walls, etc...
Try changing wlan channels and find with lowest noise level and best ping.
U can see this on box when adapter is installed with iwconfig command.

Hi,

from what I investigated, wireless is very bad for cardsharing...

Lots people report ethernet trough power adapters to work good inhouse, so it is much better solution than wirelless and it is elegant for some cases where box is not near ethernet cable.
