Troep's Server Updates - 18-May-2010, 16:54

Okay,

Today I experimented with moving my cardsharing server to a temporarly NAS using iSCSI. So today a few minutes downtime.

Tonight when I come home, i'll start copying my files to some backup drives and start building my new NAS with iSCSI.

Then the cardsharing server will go down again (just for a few minutes) and is moved to the new NAS. Then with some help of my VMware ESX servers i'll be keeping it up from the NAS.

Nice. But with some little downtime. Not real hours just a few minutes.

Just to let you know that i'm doing some experimenting.

Update 23-5-2010: Today I moved the cardsharing server to a virtual pc. But the network is now very slow due to file copying from old server to new san.

That will be finished tonight i hope. The next day i'll start migrating the server to the iSCSI interface on the NAS. So expect a few minutes of downtime and sometimes some dropouts of connection.

The funside of this all is that I now can Vmotion the server to another ESX host. Because the shared storage only the local card will not showup, when the machine is being moved.

I'm also working on a new CCcam server for cable only. With no local card so the machine can easily be clustered and vmotion it allong my network.
