Satellite dish paint - 24-December-2012, 20:20

Hi,

I have been looking for information about satellite dish paint, I have a new satellite dish that I want to paint so it "blends" in with the house.

In myneighbourhood they don't like sat dishes so my plan is to paint it and show my neighbours that they will not see the sat dish and hope that they accept it.

Has anyone anyone any real experience in painting your sat dish, what type of paint did you use, did you use more than one color?

Appreciate any help I can get.

BR,
/Andy

Hi,

Oki, thanks, so it is ok to sandpaper it first and then just paint so it sticks better?

Did you loose any signal? Do you remeber what type of paint you use, spray can?

are you sure this is not a typo error ??

ive look at your wonderfull pics a few times and perhaps i am mistaken ..but..that dish to me looks very much to me like a Triax 78 cm dish ? ..but as i say plze accept my appoligy if i am mistaken on this .

im very impressed by that pic you drew on your 1.5m Gilbertini dish and im sure this must brighten your day to look at it and its refreshing and different but a very skilled bit of art work and quite a few hrs labour im sure went into doing that pic ?

now as for paint jobs on sat dishes im quite sure i can recall reading from somewhere or some sat forum perhaps here on ECS Forum and from a reliable satellite expert being informed that if painting a sat dish then you must use Non Lead based paint otherwise signal will not be achieved again and dish will be ruined forever .
maybbe this is only for certain dish type ive not bothered to paint my dishes yet as really its been a hard winter here in Eire this past few months and it wasnt much of a summer this year either .
But hopefully you can inform us all of what type of paint you were using to do your art work on that very masterpiece Gibertini dish of yours Plan B .

thnxs and well done @ Plan B for sharing your nice pics with us .

Thanks Plan B, really nice work. I suppose this was painted by hand, air brush? Did you use some kind of clear coat at the end?

@Barney2222, yes I have also read something about non lead paint. I was looking for someone with real experience, but looks like Plan B has done it so I suppose I could as well, although my wouldn't be that fancy.

Its a Technomate 80cm for sure, bit of a copy of the Triax though so i will forgive you just this once

Not wishing to take the full credit for the artwork i have to admit in the words of shaggy " It wasn`t me", I installed the dish and the customer asked if they came in any other colour, rather than white! I offered to paint it green for them but they declined. I was a little shocked when i had a call from them because a fox had chewed the cable and saw the painted dish.

Think you will find all paint these days is Non Lead based...health and safety and all that.

I personally have painted a few dishes in my time and use a general paint specifically for metal ( not hammerite) applied with a brush or sponge for that textured look!!!

Well as i have already said its not my own work, however it was sprayed on the customer tells me the artist used cans!!

I`m sure there is a Picasso in all of us somewhere! Go for it and post back your results. :)
