According to a study by comScore and Nielsen, 65% of Spanish children between 8 and 12 years old have a mobile phone and about 38% of children over 13 have a smartphone.
Smartphones and tablets are the new icon of the 21st century technology and adoption occurs at a very early age. The mobile sector has been one of the fastest growing in recent years. Access to smartphones and tablets is growing, but adults are not the only ones who use these devices. More and more children and adolescents are beginning to use them.
In another study by Inteco and Orange, it was found that 40% of Spanish children between 8 and 18 access the Internet from their mobile.
In addition, the study reports that young people prefer smartphones while boys opt for the tablets.
Finally, 77% of American children use a tablet and 64% use social networking applications. These figures, according to the study, help to portray the new social and cultural contexts brought about by new technologies.
