Al-Sharqiya launches new drama channel

The pan-Arab broadcaster's bouquet of channels includes general entertainment Al-Sharqiya TV which was launched in 2004 and a dedicated news channel Al-Sharqiya News which was introduced in 2008 before introducing Al-Sharqiya Drama this Ramadan. The Arabic-language station will broadcast 24 hours and will focus primarily on soap operas and drama which are set to attract viewers from all around the Arab world.

According to Ala'a Al Dahhan, Program Director, Al-Sharqiya Television, "We are very excited about the launch of Al-Sharqiya Drama. We have exclusive shows and series and some of these shows are produced by us so we are really excited about the response from our viewers across the Arab world."

Some of the shows lined up include exclusive shows produced by Al-Sharqiya Television such as the series Salima Basha, Al Dars Al Awwal or 'The First Lesson', M.M. as well as exclusive Turkish series including Jinan or 'Canan' (Turkish) and Yaqout or 'Zehirli Sarmaşık' (Turkish) both of which are dubbed into Arabic. Other shows include a comedy series lead by the Arab world's legendary Comedian Adil Emam, Firqat Naji Atallah.

The new "Al-Sharqiya Drama" channel can be viewed on two satellites including Nilesat 102 (Frequency: 12226, Horizontal, S/R: 27500, FEC: 3/4) and Hotbird 9 (Frequency: 11747, Horizontal, S/R: 27800, FEC: 3/4.)
