AmberFin launches new iCR

AmberFin's new software-based standards convertor is designed to fit into file-based workflows to offer increased conversion options for broadcasters and facilities.

AmberFin has announced the launch of its new iCR format convertor, which forms part of its iCR software range. The launch coincides with initial sales of five units to several European broadcasters.

The iCR format convertor is designed to support broadcast file-based workflows which require the up-converting of existing content from 576i to 720p or 1080i for HD transmission. It is also aimed at companies looking to take advantage of HD web delivery, which primarily uses 720p but has begun to require 1080p. A range of other up-, down- and cross-conversion modes are also designed for post houses looking for high-quality file format conversion.

The iCR format convertor uses only one software application and also includes a transcoding toolset. This allows users to work with a larger range of input and output file formats than those available with a hardware format convertor. It also includes motion-compensated SD standards conversion.

Bruce Devlin, CTO of AmberFin, said: "Broadcasters must be able to provide high quality if they are to make the most of the new revenue streams offered by new formats. We can deliver that quality, in a cost-effective open architecture approach that fits seamlessly into file based workflows."
