Aora adds Eurosport
Rose Major

Indonesian pay-TV platform Aora has added Eurosport to its line-up, part of a shift in the operators strategy to widen its focus beyond soccer programming. Eurosport already broadcasts on rival Indovision.

Eurosport will replace the Goal TV 2 channel, which screened mainly soccer including the Dutch League competition. Another soccer-focused channel, Goal TV 1, has also been replaced.

But other channels that have also ended their tenure on Aora include two A&E Television Networks services The History Channel and Crime & Investigation, as well as terrestrial channel SCTV.

In their places, Aora last month added Star Movies, Star World, Nat Geo Adventure and Nat Geo Wild. But the platform has been juggling capacity issues which mean its channel line-up remains limited.

Remaining on Aora are TVRI, tvOne, Boomerang, CNN, Hallmark and ESPN Star Sports, which airs the English Premier League, which has been exclusive to Aora in Indonesia following the demise of the Astro-backed PT Direct Vision last year. However, that deal lasted only for the 2008/2009 season and a deal has not yet been struck for next seasons competition.

A statement on Aoras websire aimed at subscribers said: With or without BPL, depending on the outcome of our arrangement with the channels' provider, you may continue to enjoy ESPN & Star Sports on Aora as an optional package (price to be determined) or, we will provide attractive replacements (non-sport) for the channels at no additional cost.

The statement added: We would also like to inform you that we are in the process of preparing the necessary technical capacity to allow a more comprehensive service to you. We hope that we can get this ready by the end of this year.

Rival DTH platform Indovision offers nearly 100 channels and boasts some 60% of the countrys (legal) pay-TV subscriber base with around 500,000 subs.
