BBC, VoA banned by Iran - 06-January-2010, 20:38

Most international broadcasting organisations have been banned from operating within Iran.

The past few weeks have seen increased local opposition to the ruling authorities and in response Iran has proscribed about 60 organisations including the BBC, which transmits a Farsi-language channel over the region with some considerable success, and Voice of America and Radio Farda, again which transmit in Farsi.

Other more charitable operations including the USA’a Brookings Institute and George Soros-funded Open Society Foundation, have also been placed on the blacklist.
