Having passed Canal+ competitor I-Télé, now French DTT news channel BFM TV is moving to a fully live broadcast from 6am to midnight.
Other priorities for the broadcaster for the new season include more coverage of big events such as the US elections as well as a greater interactivity with viewers.
Launched in November 2005, the channel is now watched by 15 million households each week, growth of 6 million over one year. It has reached an audience share of 1.1% compared to I-Télé’s 0.6% and is aiming for 1.5% after the whole French territory is covered by DTT signals in 2011.
Over the last three years, BFM TV’s budget has grown from €15 million to €25 million this year and will reach €30 million in 2009. The channel’s budget is expected in the next years to reach between €40 million and €50 million. Development will also depend a lot on mobile TV, as the channel was attributed a licence by CSA.
