Brazil’s pay-TV grows 2.4%

Pay-TV in Brazil grew by 2.4% during May, adding 336,406 new subscribers, totalling 14.3 million, according to the latest report issued by the national association for telecommunications (ANATEL).
With 7.72 million subscribers, the group Embratel (Net Serviços and Claro TV) maintained its dominance in the market, registering a growth of 2% between April and May.
The second largest operator, Sky, grew 3% and reached 4.36 million, while Telefónica's Vivo lost 1.6% of its base, reaching 673,757 households.
Oi grew 7.2% and reached 458,508 subscribers, while Blue Interactive and Algar grew 1% and 1.8% respectively, reaching 101,000 and 103,000 subscribers.
But GVT experienced the biggest growth with 21% reaching 199,000 clients, and the rest of the market lost almost 1% of its base and set at 667,736 subscribers.
As for the performance of each technology in May, MMDS TV reported 209,729 subscribers, losing about 9,185 subscribers in April. Cable TV added 70,960 households, reaching 5.7 million and 274,621 DTH subscribers added to reach 7.9 million.
