CCTV opens Middle Eastern office
by Sean Williams on Dec 23, 2010

Chinese national broadcaster China Central Television (CCTV) has officially opened its new Middle East regional centre in Dubai. The opening was announced at a ceremony in the Al Falak Ballroom, at the summit of Dubais iconic Burj Al Arab, and entertained a host of regional media giants, including TECOM Investments CEO Abdullatif Al Mulla.

Before the channels local HQ was officially launched, by way of turning a strange crystal ball in the centre of the room, CCTV vice president Sun Yusheng praised the energy of the region, and stressed the importance for the network to have a strong presence in the Middle East.
The rapid emergence of modern desert cities such as Dubai and Abu Dhabi...shows that nothing can impede the pursuit and realisation of a high quality lifestyle. "This year, we decided to set up a regional centre in the Middle East, to further accelerate integration of the Chinese and Middle Eastern cultures, and cover a vision and global landscape, and social development in a fair, objective and comprehensive way, added Sun.

CCTV, which has an audience of over one billion, already operates in Europe, North America, Russia, Africa, Asia-Pacific and Latin America. Its Middle Eastern office is the last of its seven centres to be launched, bringing the networks number of correspondent stations to 50.
