Com Hem acquires Canal Digital Kabel-TV - 22-June-2011, 06:10

Published: 10.02 Europe/London, June 21, 2011

Com Hem AB has announced it will acquire Canal Digital Kabel-TV from Canal Digital Sweden AB for SEK 85 million. The company is active in cable television and IPTV in Sweden and currently provides TV services to approximately 220,000 households.

Canal Digital Kabel-TV (CDK) is a fully owned subsidiary of Canal Digital Sweden. CDK is a provider of television by cable and broadband (IPTV) in Sweden and reaches approximately 220,000 households. The sale does not affect Canal Digitals satellite DTH business in Sweden.

Com Hem has acquired the entire company including personnel, but said it intends to sell the IPTV part with about 22 000 active customers to AllTele. The majority of cable television customers will gradually be connected to Com Hems fiber-coax networks.

With this acquistion we have a great opportunity to expand our network of connected households. We have the experience and the resources required to give property owners the best possible service and to consumers the biggest and best television experience, said Com Hems CEO Tomas Franzn in a statement.

Canal Digital is working hard as a pure satellite operator, which is our strategy in the Nordic region. Therefore, we now sell our cable TV company, said Canal Digital Swedens CEO Mats Almgren.

The transaction is subject to the Swedish Competition Authoritys approval.

Com Hem had 837,800 RGUs at the end of March of this year including 623,200 digital TV customers and 1.77 million households connected to its network.
