Mipcom 2009 Cannes. Disney-ABC-ESPN Televisions first agreement for a WiMAX platform is included in a slate of new media deals announced at Mipcom in Cannes that also include video on demand, IPTV, mobile and gaming platforms.
The distributors first ever WiMAX deal is with More in Russia for a transactional video on demand agreement that gives customers of the local Yota network access to current and library content over the PC and mobile.
The Dutch Videoland platform, available both over the PC and through the KPN IPTV platform will be able to view current and library features, as will the Scandinavian online VOD platform Film2Home. The Videoland agreement also extends to Flemish-speaking Belgium.
Features agreements have also been closed with PC VOD service tvscreen.pl in Poland and Innova, the leading online game publisher in Russia.
Separately, Disney-ABC-ESPN Television has created a new window known as Hot from the US that is clearly aimed at heading off the pirate download market on hot content properties.
Live action series will be made available with subtitles between 24 and 48 hours after its US transmission in a limited window that typically runs for seven days. Agreements include Deutsche Telekoms Videoload service for ABC Studios Lost, Desperate Housewives, Greys Anatomy and Private Practice; and Telenet for Flemish Belgium.
Last week TF1 Vision (France) announced locally its own Hot from the US window that also includes FlashForward, the recently launched new drama from ABC Studios. In addition Cyfra+ in Poland has picked up Criminal Minds, Desperate Housewives, Greys Anatomy and Lost in the accelerated window.
