Thursday, March 18 2010, 12:10 GMT

By Andrew Laughlin,

BBC iPlayer has set another strong month for programming requests, including EastEnders Live helping it achieve the best ever weekly results.

According to iPlayer statistics released today, there were 116.4 million requests for TV and radio programming last month on all available platforms, including Virgin Media.

The figure is slightly below the peak of 120.3m requests in January, but it should be noted that February is a shorter month at just 28 days.

Over the month, there were 98.7m requests for iPlayer programming on just online platforms, comprising a record-breaking 68.7m TV requests and 29.9m for radio.

Online iPlayer also set an average daily record of 3.5m requests, with nearly 1.4m users now accessing the service every day.

The week commencing February 15 saw the highest ever number of weekly requests on iPlayer, 26.3m, as EastEnders Live helped drive a massive 18.9m requests for TV programming over the seven days.

Staged to mark the soap's 25th anniversary, the live episode pulled in 1.131m requests last month, while the birthday edition of The Chris Moyles Show topped the radio figures with 104,000.

Requests for iPlayer programming on the Apple iPhone hit 3.1m over the month, accounting for 4% of all usage, while the Nintendo Wii continued its steady climb by increasing one percentage point to 4% of all requests. The BBC iPlayer channel has also now passed the milestone of 1m installs on the Wii.

However, PC viewing still leads the way with 59% of all programming requests, followed by Virgin Media with 21% and the Mac with 7%.

The BBC has also released some "time spent" data for iPlayer usage, which revealed that users are spending an average of 64 minutes watching TV content and 163 minutes accessing radio programming.
