Satellite operator Eutelsat has made a strong start to its 2012 financial year posting revenues for the quarter ended 30 September of €295.4 million, a year on year rise of 3.4%.
In attributing reasons for the bullish results, Eutelsat identified two particular successes, the launch of the ATLANTIC BIRD 7 satellite which provides enhanced coverage of the Middle East and North Africa broadcast markets and also the W3C craft. In all the company's Q1 2011 video application business grew 1.4% year on year to €198.2 million.
Commenting on the first quarter, Michel de Rosen, Eutelsat CEO said: “Eutelsat generated revenue growth of 3.4% in the first quarter. This reflects a temporary transitional period for the Group until current capacity constraints, resulting from two years of stronger than expected up-take of our in-orbit resources, are alleviated. Two new satellites, ATLANTIC BIRD 7 and W3C, will enter into full commercial service during the second quarter. Both of these satellites cover fast-growing video markets including the Middle East, North Africa and Central Europe. "
