Grupo TV Cable contract sees Conax continue LatAm momentum

Editor | 01-08-2012

Following on with its recent wins in Brazil and Mexico, Norwegian digital content protection firm Conax has now inked a deal with Ecuadors Grupo TV Cable to provide end-to-end protection of DVB open solutions.
Grupo TV Cable is a corporate group fully based on Ecuadorian capital and established through the integration of key companies in the telecommunications sector such as TV Cable, SATNET, SURATEL and SETEL.

The company will be deploying the new security solution for the migration of systems in 5 smaller markets in Ecuador and converting analogue TV systems to digital with increased programming and quality. The services being offered initially are SD and HD subscription, pay per view and pre-paid voucher services.
With its new architecture, Grupo TV Cable hopes to digitise new cities and networks more cost effectively and introduce hybrid STB solutions, as well as provide flexibility to respond to market changes and the scalability to grow and add new markets.
Revealing the decision making process around the new implementation, Derek Caney, CTO, TV Cable, said: We selected security partner Conax as we needed to minimise potential challenges presented by the development of interoperability with other elements in the total platformKnowing that the solution has been very successful and running smoothly at other operations, such as Cablemas in Mexico, was also a key determining factor in our selection."

The deal with Conax also provides the operator with the flexibility to choose from multiple STB vendors, EdgeQAM suppliers and middleware solutions.Grupo TV Cable will also use a billing system from Comarch of Poland, EdgeQAM from Arris and STBs from Evolution Digital.
Together with partner Evolution Digital LLC who provides STBs, the security provider says that its aim is to help Latin American pay-TV operators like Grupo TV Cable position their offerings for the future with proven DVB open standards solutions through the option to choose from a wide selection of proven, highly secure, reliable and economical client devices including best-of-breed components for a total platform.
