Hispasat 1E launched successfully
Iñaki Ferreras | 31-12-2010
Hispasat has reported that its new 1E satellite, along with Korean satellite Koreasat 6, has been launched successfully by an Ariane-5 rocket from the Kourou space centre in French Guyana.
The slightly delayed mission was Ariane-5's sixth and last mission of this year and its Spanish payload is set to last fifteen years, offering a variety of digital TV and HDTV content, plus broadband for mobile, terrestrial and maritime communications.
As like the rest of the Hispasat fleet, 1E will be positioned at 30º West and will cover Europe, the Middle East, America and Africa and will carry 53 Ku band transponders. 1E represents the second of Hispasat's new generation satellites and will offer 89% more capacity than its 1D predecessor as well as 120% more power, 60% more payload and a higher coverage over Africa and the Middle East.
In 2010, Arianespace claimed 60% of the total worldwide satellite market. The European consortium has also signed twelve out of eighteen contracts for the launching of new satellites.
