Hispasat prepares for new satellite launch
Iñaki Ferreras |
Spanish satellite TV provider Hispasat is to launch a new satellite, 1E, by the end of 2010.
The new satellite will replace the Hispasat 1C which operates in the 30º West position. The purpose of the new satellite is to provide services to Europe and America and complement the other Hispasat satellites already operational. Some market sources date the launch for 21 December.
The Hispasat 1E will be launched by an Ariane 5 rocket in the 199º mission. Together with Hispasat the rocket will also transport the Korean satellite Koreasat 6, to operate on the 116º East position.
Hispasat 1E will transport 57 transponders in the Ka and Ku bands and it will act as a multimedia satellite in the Ka band (from 18 to 30 GHz). Addressing the multimedia field is one of the key elements in the company's strategy.
