Hungary had over 1.1 million homes receiving digital TV services as of this October, according to data produced by the country’s National Communications Council (NHH).

The figure is based on the 14 largest providers of digital TV services, which together account for around 80-85% of the market.

According to the NHH, previous studies show that some 3 million of the country’s 3.8 million TV homes receive a subscription service of some kind. Cable accounted for the most digital subscriptions in October, though its share compared to the previous month was down from 56% to 55.3%.

On the other hand, satellite’s rose from 29.9% to 30.2% and IPTV from 14.1% to 14.5%. Digi had the highest market share in the satellite sector, with the figure rising from 52.6% to 53.3%. UPC saw its share rise from 24.4% to 24.9% and Magyar Telekom its from 16.5% to 17.8%.

The number of digital cable homes meanwhile stood at 359,000, with UPC and Magyar Telekom accounting for 35.4% and 21.3% of the total respectively.
