Arris buys EG Tech’s IP assets
Arris has bought some key patents and video processing assets from Atlanta-based EG Technology (EGT) for some $6.5m. About 20-25 staff will shift over to Arris.
Under the terms of the agreement, ARRIS acquired EGT patents and video processing technology for digital networks, and will employ approximately 20-25 of the existing employees. The acquisition complements ARRIS video offerings by adding multi-functional, flexible, and scalable video processors to its portfolio of market leading voice, video and data solutions.
"The addition of EGT's video processing portfolio to the Arris portfolio is another step in our evolution towards addressing all of the quad play, three-screen needs of broadband network operators," said Jim Lakin, President, Arris Advanced Technology. "The primary benefits from this acquisition will be the long term enhanced engineering and solution capabilities the EGT product portfolio will enable. The transaction is expected to be neutral with respect to earnings per share, excluding amortization of intangibles associated with the acquisition."
"The EGT product line complements established Arris offerings such as Video on Demand, Switched Digital Video, and Ad Insertion. The EGT team is excited about joining Arris and is looking forward to creating exciting and innovative new edge products enriching the video experience of broadband subscribers," said Bill Hogan, EGT's Chief Operating Officer.
The products acquired by Arris will continue to be marketed under the EGT brand name, and include the following:
- ARRIS EGT Encore Encoder
- ARRIS EGT Quartet Encoder
- ARRIS EGT VIPr Transcoder
- ARRIS HEMi Edge Encoder
