“Catch-up TV” viewing started to take hold in France in 2008. According to Médiamétrie’s study Global Média, 40% of the 6,800 viewers above 13 polled between October and November 2008 declared they had watched programming recorded on DVD, PC or video.
Last year, 6.3 million people used catch-up TV at least once compared with 4 million in 2007. The 15 to 24-year-old demographic is the biggest user, using it nine minutes a day on average. And 15.8 % of people over 15 watched at least one programme on the same day as the first broadcast (View On the Same Day vs time shifting ).
After TV sets, PC confirmed its role of second screen as 10.7% of people over 15 watched this screen live in 2008, against 8.6% in 2007. TV viewing is however also practised out-of-home, or outside, as 35.8% of people over 15 consumed TV in a place other than their main home. That figure stood at 29.7% in 2007.
