Viaccess wins On.Net in Macedonia

Chris Forrester

Conditional access supplier Viaccess has won the DTT pay-TV contract from Macedonias On.Net. is a telecommunications operator in the Republic of Macedonia. It offers internet access, Web-hosting services, leased line, virtual private networks, iSMS services, e-magazine and online advertising, and voice over internet protocol, and SMS based applications to residential and corporate clients. The company was incorporated in 2000 and is based in Skopje, Macedonia. Since April 1, 2006, has been a subsidiary of Telekom Slovenije.

Viaccess says the companys scalable CA system will help On.Net to secure a short time-to-market as they have been pre-programmed to work with a large choice of TV ecosystems and set-top box vendors. To extend its reach, On.Net can take advantage of Viaccess multi-network (DTT & IP), multi-device (PC, mobile, portable video players) and home networking capabilities, enabling it to deliver content in a more flexible way.

On.Nets recent DTT trial, covering the capital Skopje, proved to be a great success. The company plans to offer 50 TV programmes, 50 radio programmes and datacast, including a seven-day electronic programme guide, on four DVB-T multiplexes to all territories of Macedonia.

The advanced TV technologies of today have really revolutionised how people think about television, said Franois Moreau de Saint Martin, Viaccess CEO. We are pleased to enter the Macedonian market by helping On.Net to bring a world-class viewing experience to more people across the country. Our content protection solutions and services will enable On.Net to rapidly launch its pay-TV business with highly secured programming, differentiate it from competitors with new TV features, and capture new subscribers to grow and extend its reach.

It is our goal to become the leader in the pay-TV market in Macedonia, and as such, On.Net needs to be the pioneer in adopting the latest technology that is shaping the future of our industry, said Predrag Cemerikic, On.Net CEO. The deployment of such technology contributes to On.Nets long-term strategy, and Viaccess conditional access systems perfectly meet our requirements and objectives.

Of Macedonias two million population, On.Net expects to have more than 200,000 subscribers to its pay-TV services by the end of 2010.
