Iran’s 5-year TV plan - 17-November-2009, 12:42

Iran has spoken about its plans for TV and the media, which include boosting the number of satellite channels available to viewers.

The head of the Iranian radio and TV organization, Ezzatollah Zarghami, in a recent broadcast reported on by BBC Monitoring, said in the past Iran’s radio and TV organization has made films about the revolution, historical events and documentaries. He spoke in detail about how programmes are presented to the organization and approved for production. Zarghami said all provinces now have their radio and TV channels, apart from North Khorasan and South Khorasan. He said apart from Semnan Province TV, all other provincial channels are now on satellite. Semnan Provincial TV will also go on satellite in the near future.

He said the establishment of the international English-language Press TV has been a success. As to movies shown on domestic TV, Zarghami said Iran showed both domestic and foreign films. Around 100 domestic TV films have been shown in the current year.

He made reference to various documentary films shown on domestic TV channels and stressed the need to increase religious documentary programmes. He also pointed to technical issues, saying that there are 60 digital studios in Iran.

The head of the Iranian radio and TV organization drew reporters' attention to a five-year plan of the organization, and said that the plan includes increasing in the number of TV channels.
