Irdeto hints at Mid-East ‘win’ -
Conditional Access (CA) specialist Irdeto says within this next month the company plans to announce a Middle East customer win “that further demonstrates the traction and success of our security and technology”.
The news will be welcomed at Irdeto’s Netherlands HQ, which has recently seen major pay-TV broadcaster Arab Radio & Television (ART) decide on Viaccess as its favoured supplier for a range of new boxes now beginning to ship in the region. Irdeto will continue to protect ART’s existing Middle East customers under a simulcrypt scheme for a yet to be determined time. Rapid TV News understands that high-level meetings will be taking place at IBC between Irdeto and ART’s senior staffers to discuss future moves.
Daan van Kootwijk, VP/EMEA Sales at Irdeto, which continues to supply CA to Showtime Arabia (and its now merged rival Orbit), says digital piracy continues to be a pain point for operators globally, and particularly in the Middle East. “We want to assure this market that Irdeto has successfully established counter measures to combat card emulation piracy and we continue to work diligently with the Arab Anti-Piracy Alliance (AAA) and other legislative bodies to combat piracy. In fact, the UAE Ministry of Economy and the Dubai Police recently conducted a joint raid of several warehouses in Dubai where thousands of illegal pay-TV decoders were confiscated. The catalyst to the raids were complaint letters sent by Irdeto to the AAA, who then worked through the police and government officials to ensure the criminal activity was eradicated."
"Irdeto CAS 3 provides high levels of security and what we believe to be the best renewability in the industry. We know it's important for our ME customers to respond to growing threats, and within the next month, we plan to announce a regional customer win that further demonstrates the traction and success of our security and technology. More details to come, but we think it's important for the market to know we have been, and will continue to be, a leader in the CA and digital security space."
Irdeto will be unveiling the latest CA system (CAS3) at IBC later this week. Its core elements are:
· Designed as a protection model for large and mid-sized operators in need of advanced security to protect high value content formats like high-definition and personal video recorder, Irdeto CAS 3 will feature benefits such as built in recovery, flexible deployment models and future-proof security features.
· Irdeto is working with a number of customers to deploy Irdeto CAS 3, including a leading premium digital content provider and DTH operator in the ME-Africa region.
· Additionally, Irdeto will be announcing significant customer wins for the Universal Client and Content Management Solution - a testament to the success of Irdeto’s security technology and future-proof approach to distributing, protecting and monetizing digital content.
· At the show, Irdeto will demonstrate a wide range of innovative content and business model protection solutions and services that showcase the company's ability to enable "Limitless Media, Limitless Possibilities."
