It’s ‘Shark Week’ on FloTV
Discovery Channel has sold a batch of programming to Qualcomm’s FloTV. FloTV is the cellular service available over much of the USA which carries a wide choice of TV channels and digital services. This week is ‘Shark Week’, helping celebrate the 22nd Anniversary Year of the week’s shows, for users on Verizon Wireless and AT&T’s Mobile systems.
Discovery joins the likes of CBS, MTV, CNN, ESPN, Nickelodeon, CNBC, Fox News, NBC and others, each available 24-hours a day. Some shows are aired ‘as live’, others are time-shifted. AT&T has its ‘Crackle’ exclusive channel, while Verizon also has a dedicated service.
Flo TV boosted its near-nationwide availability in June when analogue TV was switched off over the USA. FloTV does not give a status report of its subscriber numbers but its parent company Qualcomm says its recorded assets in FloTV (as at June 2Cool totalled $1.2bn which included wireless licences. Qualcomm/FloTV is sitting on a slice of spectrum in the UK suitable for an entertainment service.
