NBC off blocks with Olympics mobile apps

Joseph O'Halloran | 13-07-2012

As part of what is rapidly becoming a huge effort for the London Games, NBC Olympics has launched two mobile apps, marking the first time that NBC viewers have been able to access the games directly from smartphones and tablets.

Powered by powered by Adobe, the apps are designed to enable NBC to create, deliver, authenticate, monetise and measure the Olympics across mobile devices. NBC made use of Adobe Creative Suite, including, Illustrator, Acrobat, Flash Builder, Flex; Adobe AIR to deliver a consistent content and video playback across platforms; Adobe Auditude for advertising directly within the apps; Adobe Catalyst to measure traffic and engagement across apps; Adobe Pass for authentication services.

The free NBC Olympics Live Extra and NBC Olympics apps are available immediately in the Apple AppStore and Google Play. The former allows viewers to stream more than 3,500 hours of live content, including all 32 sports, every athletic competition and all 302 medal events. The latter allows users to experience short-form highlights, TV and online schedules, live results, columns and a new Primetime Companion feature designed to provide a complementary, second-screen experience for NBC's nightly primetime Olympic broadcasts.

The apps are interconnected, so that users can launch one of the apps from within the other. Both apps offer social media integration with Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus.
