NBC's Olympic Ratings Slow On Friday Night
13.4 Rating, 26.2 Million Viewer Averages Are 2010 Games' Second-Lowest Nielsen Marks
Mike Reynolds -- 2/20/2010 3:51:55 PM

Despite a pair of American medals in the men's alpine Super G event, NBC's ratings with the Winter Olympics slowed Friday night.
According to Nielsen data, NBC notched a national household rating of 13.4 rating /23 share and 23.3 million average viewers for its Feb. 19 broadcast. That was the network's second-lowest primetime numbers from Vancouver behind its Feb. 16 telecast.
Nevertheless, the Olympic audience, which witnessed Bode Miller and Andrew Weibrecht win silver and bronze in the Super G competition, was nearly double the combined delivery of 12.5 million for CBS, Fox and ABC, and represented a 20% increase from the 11.2 rating/19 share over the comparable night from the 2006 Winter Games from Torino
The 14.7/24 average household rating through the first eight days of the Vancouver Olympics was 20% higher than the 12.3/20 relative average from 2006.
With a 26.2 million viewer average, NBC over the first eight nights of the Vancouver Games scored a 27% jump from the 20.7 million from Torino, and are the most for a non-U.S. Winter Olympics since CBS posted 38.3 million for the tabloid-fueled Lillehammer Games in 1994.
On Feb. 20, NBC Universal telecasts were watched by some 70 million total viewers, 10 million more and 17% higher than 60 million on the middle Friday of the 2006 Games.
A total of 157 million Americans -- 5 million more than at the same stage of the Torino quadrennial -- have watched the first eight days of the Games on NBCU networks, according to Nielsen data.
Digitally, has delivered 25.4 million total unique users, according to Omniture, nearly 12 million more uniques and 91% greater than the 13.3 million for all17 days of the 2006 Games.
Mobile usage also continues to spike. NBC's Olympics Mobile platforms -- the combination of its WAP site and iTunes App -- through the Games' first eight days garnered 43 million page views, already 8 million more than the 34.7 million for all 17 days of the 2008 Beijing Summer Games. NBC officials said there wasn't any comparison to the 2006 Winter Olympics because there were no equivalent platforms.
