Added focus for European CE market

IFA, the worlds second-largest consumer electronics show after the US's CES, is embracing the home appliance sector.

Once again IFA will be held at the end of August and beginning of September in Berlin to show the latest developments in LCD and plasma screens, DVD players such as new Blu-ray readers as well as radio car equipments and Hi-Fi products for the home. This year news will be the two halls dedicated to home appliance products.

"By integrating the electrical home appliances industry we expect consumer lifestyle products from both industries to become more popular and international trade visitors and media at IFA to express even keener interest," said Rainer Hecker, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of consulting company GFU.

A survey initiated by Messe Berlin claims IFA is on the right track according to its management. Speaking at IFA 2008's international press conference held in Mallorca, Spain, Christian Gke, Messe Berlin's Chief Operating Officer (pictured above) said: "Among the ten most important electrical devices for every day use five belong to consumer electronics and the other five to domestic appliances. By closely combining products and services from sectors ranging from consumer electronics to home appliances we are reflecting market structures and creating further potential for trade and industry", he added.

Jrgen Boyny, Global Director of Consumer Electronics at GfK Marketing Services added some information on this market. "The consumer electronics market as well as the market for home applicances are increasing worldwide. Innovations in the segments of TV sets, mobile phones and PCs are driving the growth of the CE market, whereas lifestyle, convenience, health and energy efficiency are driving the market for home applicances".

For the coming years Boyny predicts an ongoing demand for flat TVs at a high level. "The increased awareness of energy efficiency will be reflected by new attractive CE products in the future", he declared.

In total the market expert predicted a worldwide market volume of technical consumer products of US$680 billion. This means an increase of eight per cent in this market.

Gke said: "IFA gathers key industry players at international level, inspires its audiencies and moves markets. The conference was completed by product presentations from both industries and by panel discussion, organized by Showstoppers, IFA's new partner from USA. IFA is the world's second-largest consumer electronic show.

As for the brands present at the event such as Samsung, Panasonic, Sharp and Loewe their Marketing directors declared themselves "very optimistic" on the end of the Blu-ray-HD/DVD war in the middle of last February. As a consequence, consumers have begun to buy more Blu-ray players and prices are expected to come down to 300 by the end of this year, further stimulating the market. So a renewed range of Blu-ray players will be shown at IFA.
