Staying in touch has never been easier. Mobile phones and the internet have made it simple to contact a friend, relative or colleague wherever they are in the world and, as telecommunication has become more readily available, prices have fallen.
In order to keep costs low and customer numbers high, telecoms companies bundle internet, phone and sometimes television and mobile packages together. It is cheaper than going to separate providers for each service, and fewer monthly bills mean it is simpler for the customer to keep control of their outgoings.
Mobile phone provider Orange has this month launched Home Max, offering broadband for just £6.50 a month for existing Orange mobile customers, with the first three months free of charge. New customers can get the service for £9.50 a month. There are free evening and weekend calls and no set-up fees. There is a monthly line rental payable to Orange for £10.50 a month.
Comparison site Simplifydigital.co.uk is offering an additional £50 cashback for all Orange Home Max sales made by calling 0800 090 1351.
Competitor TalkTalk offers free evening and weekend calls and broadband for a penny less at £6.49 a month- but there is a £30 set-up charge, and a 40GB download limit. This is a high user limit however, so average internet surfers are unlikely to exceed it. There is also a line-rental charge of £11.25 a month.
Tiscali also has a 40GB download limit on its broadband and free weekend calls for £14.99 a month. There is a £30 set up charge, but the first three months are discounted down to £9.99 and there is no line rental charge, making Tiscali the cheapest deal.
