Colombia will have the highest IPTV penetration per household in Latin America by 2014

Colombia will have the highest IPTV penetration per household in Latin America by 2014, as cable TV users migrate to telco TV, according to new findings from Argentinian consultancy Signals Telecom Consulting.

Meanwhile, economic difficulties and delayed investments in Venezuela mean that the country will be "highly unlikely" to meet its IPTV targets within the specified timeframe. Across the Latin American pay-TV industry as a whole, there are expected to be over 200mn revenue-generating units (RGUs) in the region by 2014, with Brazil accounting for one-third of all pay-TV accesses.

Over 50% of households in Argentina, Colombia and venezuela will have pay-TV accesses by 2014, according to the findings, however high pay-TV penetration levels in Argentina will not be replicated by broadband accesses in the country. DTH meanwhile is expected to become the largest pay-TV platform in Mexico by 2014. HFC networks are expected to remain the principal pay-TV platform over the next five years in Argentina, Brazil and Peru.

Mexico is predicted to displace Chile as the market with the region's highest per-household broadband penetration in 2010, while Peru will have the lowest per-household broadband penetration in 2014.
