IP Vision launches Fetch TV Freeview+ box

By Andrew Laughlin, Technology Reporter

IP Vision has launched the new Freeview+ accredited Fetch TV SmartBox which offers access to broadcast and video on-demand content.
The SmartBox enables users to watch 1,500 hours of VOD content, including programming from Channel 4, CNN, Sky Sports News and the BBC iPlayer.

It also offers pay-per-view access to films and premium content from Paramount Pictures, National Geographic and the Cartoon Network.
With full Freeview+ accreditation, the SmartBox allows users to pause and rewind live TV or record programming onto the 160GB hard drive.
IP Vision chief executive Eddie Abrams said: "We have known for a long time that our service had the capability to deliver content that has been traditionally viewed online to a TV screen."

Abrams explained that developments currently being discussed at the BBC, ITV and BT joint venture Project Canvas would mean that "content delivered via broadband will become more commonplace over the next few years".
He added: "I am proud that we are able to lead the way and be the first to market with this technology."

A UK retail deal has already been agreed with the John Lewis chain to begin stocking the product from July 23 at the recommended price of 219.
"We are in advanced discussions with a number of other parties about distribution and availability across the UK," said Abrams.
"We're also confident that over the next few months we'll be able to deliver more online content direct to the TV screen."
