The number of KPN’s TV customers grew by 51,000 to a total of 886,000 in Q2, according to the Dutch incumbent telco.
Of these, 60,000 bought the IPTV service KPN Interactieve Televisie and the remaining 826,000 the digital terrestrial service Digitenne. The latter include subscribers to the Mobiel TV service on DVB-H.
The company said it now has 23% of the Dutch digital television market and 12% of the total television market. It has also reached ‘critical mass’.
With these figures, the operator is now the second largest provider of digital TV after Ziggo with 1.1 million, but ahead of UPC and the DTH platform Canal Digitaal.
However, in terms of income, ARPU for TV customers is just €7. This is up 16.7% as compared with a year ago.
The figure is a result of the low subscription price to Digitenne (€7.50) and the big marketing push which offers free months of subscription to a new subscriber.
KPN also said it “is scaling up IPTV on copper infrastructure and expects to introduce HDTV on copper infrastructure in 2010.” At the moment, it has triple play packages with HDTV and “superior” VOD available.
