Latens, Open TV go Indian

Two more TV technology companies are opening offices in the fast-growing Indian market, hoping to benefit from the forecast growth in digital pay-TV subs to 90 million in 2012 (In-Stat).

Conditional access provider Latens is opening an R&D facility in Hyderabad, India. Latens says it plans to invest in the centre over the coming years to build a regional hub for its software development.

"Although the global markets are currently facing tough challenges, Latens continues to grow rapidly," said Jeremy Thorp, Latens CEO. "The opening of our R&D centre in India enables us to continue developing new and innovative products, allowing us to better serve our existing and future customers across the world. We are fully committed to the delivery of industry leading solutions for digital Pay TV, and the Latens R&D centre in Hyderabad will be central to this," added Thorp.

The new facility will be headed by Mark Crum, Latens Engineering Director.

Open TV, meawhile, said earlier in the week it would ope an office in Mumbai, following the hiring of Kishore Shirekar as country manager for India.

Ben Bennett, OpenTVs Chief Executive Officer. The growth of digital television in India is expected to be strong in the years ahead and we are dedicated to ensuring that our customers are well equipped to embrace this growth and provide their subscribers with advanced services that bring the excitement of the digital television experience to many homes in this dynamic country.

OpenTV claims to be the leading middleware provider in India, having contracts with DTH market leader Dish TV as well as Big TV and Sun Direct. The new office will provide support services to these clients.
