Orange adds Twitter to TV and mobile services

Orange has struck a deal with Twitter to integrate the latter's service into its pay-TV and mobile offerings for customers across a variety of countries in Europe.

Orange said in a statement that Twitter services will be rolled out in the UK first, followed by France, Spain and Poland later this year, and other European countries next year. The telco offers pay-TV services in France, Spain and Poland, and mobile phone and Internet services across a number of countries worldwide, including the UK. Twitter will also start to feature in Orange adverts soon.

"In countries where we have TV services we plan to enrich shows by allowing people to tweet while they watch their favourite programmes," said Stephanie Hospital, Director of Development and Partnerships at Orange. Ms. Hospital added that mobile Twitter users will be given a limit set in advance on the number of tweets they want to receive each day, and also the number of people they are following that they wish to receive updates from.

Orange reached 2.916mn subscribers to its pay-TV services across all markets by the end of the third quarter of this year, up 67% year-on-year, with the vast majority of these located in France.
