New services narrow Yes losses -
Advanced services introduced by the Israeli satcaster Yes pushed revenues up by 3% in the second quarter. Bezeq’s pay-TV segment increased operating profit year-on-year by 38.8% to NIS 59 million (€10.44m), while EBITDA grew 11.1% to NIS 115m.
Yes has recently introduced its MaxHD DVR and has already accrued 13,000 subscribers. The total customer base grew by 11,000 subscribers over the year and 2,000 on the quarter to reach 562,000 subs at June 30, 2009.
However, ARPU was hit by the termination of an internet access agreement with Bezeq fixed line, which caused a 2.6% year-on-year decline to NIS 224. The company says the line would have registered an increased had the agreement still been in place.
Excluding financing costs Yes made a NIS 5m loss, compared to the NIS 15m loss in the second quarter of 2008.
