Spain's new audiovisual law allowing payment on DTT

Spain's new audiovisual law allowing payment on DTT has received more bad news.

ASIMELEC has asked the government to make clear that in order to receive the pay-DTT signals it is only necessary to have a subscription and a pay-DTT box.
Criticism is now coming from an unlikely source: manufacturers association ASIMELEC said the law is creating confusion among the consumers".

"The way the new law has been regulated, the creation of sport channel Mediapro's Gol TV, the Abertis Telecom official stamp for the certified boxes and the adaptation of the Spaniard broadcasting sector to this new technology has created some kind of confusion among the consumers," association General Manager Jos Prez said.

This confusion is leading - according to him to instances in some of Spain's regions where it is being announced the possibility of giving DTT boxes back to the retailer where the consumer bought them because they're not adapted to pay-DTT. According to the association returns are neither justified nor legally possible. They come from a lack of the adequate information over the difference between free-DTT and pay-DTT, and the different pay-TV operators such as the new Gol TV.

ASIMELEC added that the TV sets and DTT boxes at present being sold in Spain are all geared for free-to-air digital TV, either national broadcasts or the regional and the local ones.

But Jos Prez also highlighted that while the technical standard regulating pay-DTT was approved only on July 27, in spite of the short time passed since then, there is already a high percentage of manufacturers with this technological capacity in their equipments.
