UK ad-revenues in long slump
The bad news about advertising income – at least as far as the UK market is concerned – could run for another two years, according to ZenithOptimedia. And there’s no upturn in sight, the firm adds.
Zenith has predicted the state of the market to 2012 and says that this year’s ad-revenues will tumble 6% from £3.38bn last year. Ads for financially-related products have crashed 20%, while lower-cost consumer goods are down a worrying 9%.
And it gets no better. 2009 is expected to fall another 3%. 2010 could see a recovery but to below 2008’s numbers, and once inflation is factored in the position is – at best – static.
