Viaccess to counter card sharing The new Viaccess's weapon against the hackers

The Praha card is a new generation of proactive and intelligent smart card where security is leveraged into a new era

Amsterdam- Viaccess, a France Telecom company and the European leader in conditional access, just announced at the IBC forum the introduction of the PRAHA card. This smart card is the living proof of Viaccess commitment in the fight against hackers : Viaccess strategy is to supply its customers with a new card every 24 months to remain a step ahead of piracy.

The PRAHA card (Proactive Against Hacker Attacks) is a state of the art security design inheriting from Viaccess 15 years of experience in piracy management. The PRAHA card ensures an optimal compatibility with the existing set top boxes in order to facilitate the deployment and the operations by customers.

In terms of security, it includes new proactive security features to fight against card sharing and provides countermeasures. For our customers, the PRAHA card is definitely the right option to upgrade to the highest security level now available. The benefits are multiple:

State of the art security as the card is proactive against card sharing and enables hacker attack analysis and automatic sanctioning
Latest chipset generation

The availability of the PRAHA card is the result of the extensive research undertaken by our R&D department and of our commitment against piracy, explains Franois Moreau de Saint Martin, Viaccess CEO. We are in a growing, competitive market undergoing profound changes and we believe the introduction of the PRAHA card will ultimately enforce our customers business.

Viaccess will display its solutions and demonstrations at the IBC show on booth 151, Hall 1.

not so bad to loss art but other packages using viaccess and this new card will be a bad loss to everyone ,but seems this days all providers are taking steps to prevent any piracy of thier systems so this move can be expected i guess ..card changes and encryption changes seem to be the way many providers/packages are heading nowadays .
Info's is appreciated as always Bacteria many thanxxs .

I don't think that it's has anything with Cardsharing that we know, what I think they mean by cardsharing is card-copying...what you do when sharing a card as we do is the reader or the STB reads the card, they cannot stop the STB or the reader from reading the card or the card is useless, but they can try to prevent copying the card to another blank card...

This is what I understand by this..

Server

OpenSUSE 11.1 on an Intel D945GCLF2 dual Atom motherboard
2GB DDRII RAM
120GB 2.5" WD HDD

Test Server

Virtual Clarkconnect 4.3, 5.0 and OpenSUSE 11.1..all on a VMX motherboard
1GB RAM
6GB HDD

In this moment, we don't know the RSA and BK of the new receivers hd with nagra3 card, to put in the receivers of carsdharing.
That is the beginning ....
In the future maybe the cardsharing disappears, but they will appear other alternatives. ;-)

Regards

Another point maybe that if the card is concentrated on stopping card sharing. It maybe open to other attacks and hacking easily. :)

As long as the old common interface structure is in use it wont be stopped, regardless of how the systems and cards change. Only thing they can hope to achieve is a fixed limit on how much one card (or card + cam + box) can decrypt for a specific timespan. I.e: limit the amount of zapping you're allowed to do within x seconds or the number of tuners you're allowed to have.

To counter such limits would require scaling up the networks so that they include (in the worst case) one card for each service shared. In a situation with a few hundred dvb services (say a thousand tops) and millions of potential users it is still very much viable. It just needs decentrialized caching and proper automated peer-exchange, instead of forums like this one where peer data is manually swapped. Something like the bittorrent DHT solution.
