German TV group ProSiebenSat.1 launched women's channel Sixx on May 7. The inaugural programme was Hollywood movie Sex and the City which was shown as the German free-TV premiere at 20.15 CET.
“To have the idea for a new channel, create it and finally launch it is the best thing that can happen to a TV executive in his professional life,” ProSiebenSat.1's TV director Andreas Bartl said at the launch party in Munich. “We simply didn't want to believe that there are 100 print magazines for women, but no TV channel which solely screens programmes for the most beautiful target group in the world.”
The channel, which is financed through advertisements, sponsorship and home-shopping, shows US series, movies, reports and documentaries. A special treat for talk-show fans is The Oprah Winfrey Show which Sixx screens one to two weeks after its first US airing in the original English-language version with German subtitles.
In contrast to other free-to-air channels, Sixx does not interrupt programmes by commercials, instead the spots are only shown between programmes. The channel can be received in digital via cable, satellite and IPTV. Through a catch-up service on its website www.sixx.de many programmes can be seen up to seven days after their TV broadcast in full-length.
