SKY UK Pin Issues - 07-August-2009, 17:21

I have been having trouble with the pin facility on my Sky UK subscription. I got switched over to the new white card 2 weeks ago. When I have the card in its official digibox, I am getting asked for a pin for any movie rated 12 and upwards. Despite trying to change the pin restrictions in the services menu, I was unable to resolve this issue.

Today I telephoned Sky technical department. They have informed me that they have no control over this pin, that it has only recently been activated. They say that this pin can not be switched off by myself or indeed by themselves, that in fact this pin is coming from the broadcaster of the film. They said that I will have to enter the pin every time I want to view a movie with a rating of 12 or over.

This creates a major problem in that if I give a child of lets say 12 years of age a pin to view 12 rated movies, this in fact also gives them access to 18+ rated movies as well. The technical assistant I spoke to agreed that this is totally ludicrous, but that he has no solution to it at the minute.

He has said that someone from Sky will be in touch with me in the next 48 hours to discuss the situation!

Have you tried this mate.

With the card in the official box go to 'services' then 'parental control'.

Enter your pin to get into the menu.

At the bottom you will see 'Pin restrictions on/off' - By pressing the red button on the remote you can turn pin restrictions off - when you have done this you will notice that 'viewing restrictions' 'channel restrictions' and 'other restrictions' are greyed out.

Once you have done that press back up then the sky button.

Now try it in your DM.

Did it work?

AHF

Additonal to the above which will remove all need for a pin to view you could also try this.

Again, go into 'parental control' and choose option 5 - now you can remove pin protection for pre-watershed.

Now go back to 'parental control' and choose viewing restrictions - choose the 15yrs and over and adult viewing to be restricted whenever you need this option.

Thanks it is all sorted now! Sky still has a problem with the same pin being used for movies rated over 12 right through to 18 rated, but I am sorted now so not really worried anymore! Much appreciated, thanks!
