ActiveVideo Networks, a specialist in CloudTV delivery, and SMiT, a vendor of conditional access modules, have announced the integration of ActiveVideo CloudTV platform with SMiT CI Plus modules to provide enhanced interactive television experiences for cable subscribers.

On its booth, ActiveVideo will show how Cloud TV enables operator-branded menuing on CI Plus enabled television, even without a set-top box, when combined with the Ethernet or Wi-Fi connectivity of the host TV as a return channel. In addition, ActiveVideo will show how the solution supports the iPhone Remote Control App that is also displayed at the booth.

The deployment of CI Plus is gaining traction in Europe as it provides ease of use for consumers and lower cost for cable operators, said Ronald Brockmann, MD, Europe for ActiveVideo Networks, in a statement. The ActiveVideo solution enables these operators to generate additional revenue and greater loyalty from CI Plus subscribers by offering a rich interactive environment.

SMiT is supplying CI Plus modules to many operators in Europe, including Kabel Deutschland and Ziggo, said Stephen He, VP of SMiT. Our relationship with ActiveVideo is enabling us to bring the Video on Demand services and interactivity that operators can monetize to CI Plus subscribers.

Currently in approximately 5 million homes, ActiveVideo powers Cloud TV that combines Web video, Web 2.0 functionality and traditional television. With ActiveVideo and SMiT IPVOD CAM, viewers can navigate a completely interactive environment of both linear and broadband programming, including rich interfaces and graphics optimised for TV and remote control navigation; social networking; personal media; niche content; and targeted, actionable advertising.

ActiveVideo uses intelligent MPEG streaming to deliver the Web 2.0 experience to a worldwide television audience through both legacy and next-generation digital set-top boxes and broadband-connected devices. The company creates solutions and applications that are targeted toward the needs of European cable and IPTV operators and content providers at its European headquarters in Hilversum, The Netherlands.
