Gabriel Miramar-Garcia | 14-09-2012

Sony is embedding Opera Software's TV Store into connected TVs, Blu-ray players and Sony Home Theaters throughout Brazil, giving consumers a raft of apps to choose from.

For developers, this collaboration between Opera and Sony the range and reach across both install bases for individual content and apps. And, the ability to display advertising will enable publishers and content providers to inject pre-roll ads and monetise their apps. Opera also offers an intuitive sandbox for developers, called the TV Emulator.

The partnership with Opera represents another step in Sony Brazils strategy of offering third-party on-demand services on TVs. Today, the company offers over 50 apps through its Sony Entertainment Network platform, bringing together international partners like Crackle, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter, and other entertainment sites like Netmovies, Netflix, SBT, Band and others.
"Increasingly, the Brazilian consumers have enjoyed internet TV, and to serve them, we have seek for partners with quality content," said Carlos Paschoal, marketing general manager at Sony Brazil, in a statement. "Through this joint initiative with Opera, we are taking an important step toward the development of the market for Internet applications on TVs in Brazil."
