Telebono ventures new attempt
Former celebrity German TV show host Max Schautzer is holding onto his plans to launch Telebono, a television channel for older viewers.
“The surprise drop out of our principal investor was a severe setback for us,” Schautzer told industry publication Medienbote. “We were therefore not able to launch, as originally planned, in spring this year.” However, Schautzer says discussions are taking place with banks and potential new investors.
“The positive reaction I’ve had from all sides, also with a view to economic perspectives, has encouraged me to keep on with the plan.” explained Schautzer, who added that comparable channels are operating successfully in other countries. “There is also a market for this in Germany – the audience is there and waiting for such an offer.”
In April it became known that Josef Göhlen had pulled out of Telebono. With the withdrawal of the producer and media consultant, who formerly worked for public broadcasters ARD and ZDF as well as Kirch Group, the channel lost an important shareholder and innovator.
With a mixture of entertainment, service and information programmes, Telebono intends to target viewers aged from 40 years. The 24-hour channel, which wants to finance through advertising and sponsoring, plans to broadcast as a digital free-to-air offer via cable, satellite and internet.
