In a clear indication of the way in which the power has swung in the TV market, Telefónica’s internet portal Terra is to implement its Latin American business model in Spain.
The new portal will be available in Spain from 28 June and as well as exclusive content and a new design, the portal will feature live broadcasts from concerts, football games, through the platform Xtremelive, a movie rental service (Sunday TV) and other streaming music (Sonora), all imported from Latin America. The service will offer more than 7,000 live events each month, with high-definition broadcasts and live with 36 channels simultaneously, as confirmed by CEO Fernando Madeira to “El País" newspaper.
The site started out ten years ago now but the telco is "bringing to Europe the successful model of Terra that is revolutionising the digital scene in the world. Started by Spain, one of five digital advertising markets in the continent's largest, where we already have brand presence and hearing," added Madeira.
Currently, Terra has more than 100 million visitors a month, two million from Spain, in the 19 countries where it is present: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Ecuador, Spain United States, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela. In addition, the company has reported current revenues of $500 million annually and employs 1,200 workers worldwide, ranking as one of the 30 largest digital media companies.
