The spiritual home of Middle England is the unlikely setting for the launch of the first television display to support access to the BBC iPlayer, and other catch-up TV services, without the need for a set-top box.
Marks & Spencer is to supply the LCD TV, known as the iViewer, manufactured by UK-based Cello Electronics. It connects to the internet through an Ethernet cable or an optional Wi-Fi dongle.
Like other Connected TVs a wide range of external content is available for streaming through the iViewer including Disney Movies Preview, Movie Rush, Autocar Magazine, Sky Sports Boots and All, the CNN daily video podcast, Jamie’s Ministry of Food, Delicious TV Veg, Revision 3 Diggnation and the Larry King video podcast.
Manufactured in County Durham North East England, the iViewer is available in 32-inch and 26-inch versions and will be exclusively available in M&S stores from mid-December.
Software for the product was developed by Oregan Networks, which has previously worked on other Connected TVs and set-top boxes.
