Turner's Real Indian jv reassesses plans -
Turner Broadcasting Systems’ Indian joint venture, Real Global Broadcasting, is downsizing its plans for the territory as it struggles to make headway in a crowded market.
The broadcaster’s channel, Real, launched in March, targeted at ‘Neo Indians’ – the urban-oriented, ambitious, advertising-friendly youth of the country – that many channels are seeking to attract. But Real Global Broadcasting, which is a Turner jv with Alva Brothers’ producer Miditech, said that it was now “reassessing” its business plan.
Jobs are likely to be lost and the channel will start running repeats, rather than first-run content. That has been in evidence since July, when programmes finished and were not replaced.
Another channel, 9X, from INX Media, is also already airing repeats rather than first-run content and there is much talk in the market that general entertainment channels will start to close.
