Comcast Pops Universal Caller ID In San Francisco

Operator Offering Feature To Most Triple-Play Subs In Bay Area, Monterey/Salinas
Todd Spangler 8/27/2009 2:10:35 PM EDT

Comcast will roll out a feature that provides caller ID on triple-play subscribers' TVs and PCs in the San Francisco, Monterey and Salinas areas over the next two weeks.

The Universal Caller ID service, available at no additional cost, displays the caller's name and phone number on a pop-up banner on the TV or computer screen. A subscriber can answer the phone or select "exit" and go back to their favorite TV show or online activity.

The Universal Caller ID service will launch throughout Comcast's cable systems in the San Francisco Bay Area and Monterey/Salinas with the exception of the following cities: Aptos, Capitola, Half Moon Bay, Isleton, La Honda, Mendocino, Santa Cruz, Scotts Valley, Soquel, Tower Park and Watsonville. The feature launched in Comcast's Central California and North Santa Barbara cable systems earlier this summer.

In areas where it's available, the caller ID on TV feature will activate automatically although customers can disable the feature. The Caller ID to the PC software can be downloaded from www.comcast.net/callerid.

Comcast's California Region, based in Livermore, Calif., serves more than 2.4 million customers in the northern and central parts of the state. Comcast has more than 7,500 employees in the region.
