Echostar adds 22 in HD
Echostar’s Dish pay-TV subscribers can now access another 22 national HD channels taking its total to 95 – and well on the way to the promised 100 by year-end.
A handful of the channels are sports networks (like Comcast’s New England HD and Bay Area HD) while others have already launched on DirecTV (CNN HD), but simulcast channels from ABC Family HD, Biography HD, Bravo HD will please viewers. Broadcasters like Disney and Cinemax are adding East or West coast feeds in HD, while ESPN News HD, Hallmark, MGM and Sci-Fi will be available to Dish subscribers for the first time.
Slightly more specialised services like Smithsonian HD, Tennis Channel HD, Weather Ch HD and the World Fishing Network HD are also in the mix, proving that it is increasingly niche channels which are embracing HD even if, in some cases, they are initially simply upscaling Standard Definition services to climb aboard the bandwagon.
