HK DTT rising strongly
Hong Kong’s digital-terrestrial TV penetration has risen six percentage points in just three months, according to new research.
A study for both the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau and digital-terrestrial broadcasters TVB and ATV, undertaken by Synovate, claims DTT penetration now stands at 40%, up from 34% in March 2009. That equates to about 910,000 homes.
DTT viewers are also better off than their non-equipped compartiots, the study also found. While 22% of DTT homes have average monthly income of HK$40,000 (US$5,160) or over, only 16% of analogue TV homes exceed that figure.
TVB offers channels Jade, Pearl, youth-focused J2, iNews and HD Jade. ATV offers a free 24-hour HD channel and two free standard-definition channels, CTI Asia and CCTV-4 (the international channel of China Central Television).
